The Ins and Out of Keyloggers

Keep your computer fighting fit.

A keylogger is a program that installs itself onto your computer and records all your keystrokes. All you have to do is download it, which most of the time happens without your authorisation. Iit will install itself on your computer and begin to send all your information that you type into your computer! Every 30 minutes or so the keylogger will send out everything you typed to the person who sent it to you. From there they can read through it and see everything you typed, from user names, passwords, credit card information, and much more.

If you have a firewall installed on your computer, the firewall will probably ask if it should allow the keylogger access to the internet; so it may disguise itself as a different program such as an ad or something else. Do not download anything onto your computer you aren’t sure of because it could be hiding dangerous programs. Also, don’t accept files over any Instant Messenger or open / download any files from an email attachment! Use common sense, and don’t get caught in a bad situation by losing your user names, passwords, and other private information.

If you realise you have a keylogger while on your pc, immediately disconnect from the internet. This way the keylogger won’t be able to keep sending your key strokes to others. First, make sure you have an Anti Virus Software installed on your computer, along with an Anti-Spyware program and a Firewall. These three programs will make your computer safe from online threats and hopefully stop you from receiving more or any other viruses in the future. Once you have the three programs, run system wide scans with the anti virus and anti spyware software, and make sure it finds the keylogger and removes it. If nothing is found, try another program until you do.
