Too Good to be True?

It probably is.

How many room names have you seen with absolutely irresistible offers such as “FREE CREDS” or “FREE RARES” - but it’s not until you enter the room that you find out the room name was misleading?

There are a number of tricks to lure people into a room and they include:

1. Lure and swap: this involves the owner having a different room name to the purpose of the room to lure or entice people to come into the room. Common examples include a room entitled ‘GIVEAWAY’ and when you get inside, it turns out it is a trade shop or a game. The owner might even change it once you actually enter the room. While this doesn’t take your furni away or cause any real harm it is a form of false advertising, which is unethical.

2. Giveaways with a catch: this is when the owner demands something from you before the ‘giveaway’ can begin. For example, the owner might want their room rating to be a certain amount before they will start giving away. In most cases, this is a just a ploy to increase the room rating and when it comes time to give the furni away, it’s a lovely kick for those in the room. This is often backed-up with a claim that Rares or Creds will be given away if the room rating reaches the desired height to again trick people into coming into the room.

3. Unreasonable demands: If anyone demands to have your password or any of your furni in exchange for unlimited Creds or Rares, never give in. It is almost guaranteed that it is a trick. Never, under any circumstances is any Habbo to ever give out their password. Anyone that asks is leading to trick you so they can take your account. This is not just a trick, it is also a scam.

There is a difference between a trick and a scam. A scam is when you lose furni or Creds or your account etc. It is not a scam when you have not lost anything or haven’t been affected in anyway. A trick simply tricks you into believing one thing and it turns out to be another. Meaning, do not report any tricks as they have no real affect on a person unless their furni has been taken - which is then classed as a scam.

I hope you have all become a little more vigilant and are able to spot a scam or trick from a mile away (:
